May Founder’s Message: The Month of Celebrations

May Founder’s Message

The Month of Celebrations

National Skilled Nursing Care Week, Mother’s Day, Graduations, Proms, Memorial Day, Spring in Full – May is a busy month filled with many celebrations, commemorations and rites of passage.  You might be participating in every one of these hallmarks of May and if you are, as busy as you will be, I hope you take the time to truly enjoy what each event brings to your life.

Sometimes, we are the ones planning and organizing these events, sometimes we are the ones seeing off those who have accomplished a milestone goal, or preparing those for a formal dance and magical evening and sometimes we are actually the ones being honored ourselves.

During National Skilled Nursing Care Week (May 12th-18th) Focused Care team members and all who work in long term care are recognized for your noble and remarkable compassion, tireless energy and dedication and the unique role you play in the lives of our most vulnerable.

Just imagine – for one minute – if you didn’t do what you do. Maybe there are residents who depend on your smile every day to keep their spirits up. Or residents who appreciate and are used to your care and the way in which you provide it. Maybe there are family members who feel they would be constantly worried if you weren’t there caring for their loved one.  Or team members who look to you for guidance and encouragement.

There is a famous Christmas movie called It’s a Wonderful Life – you may have watched it once or many times. George Bailey, the main character, in a moment of great despair says to the angel sent down to rescue him, “Maybe it would be better if I weren’t born at all.” The angel then shows George everything that would have happened if he hadn’t been born. As a chain of terrible events unfold before George, the angel says, “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. And when he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”

Don’t ever doubt the monumental difference you make in the lives of those you care for. Without you, there would be an awful hole.

To all Focused Care Team Members and all who work in skilled nursing care – you all touch so many lives – we know, we see and we thank you.
